5GB free is enough if you use Google Photos or another service for photos, have very few apps with iCloud backup, and don't use iCloud Drive heavily.
50GB at $1.49/month is enough if you have a moderate photo library, one iPhone backup, and light iCloud Drive usage.
200GB at $4.49/month is enough if you have a large photo library of 10,000 or more photos, multiple device backups across iPhone and iPad, and regular iCloud Drive use.
2TB at $14.99/month is only necessary if you shoot a lot of video, multiple family members share the plan via Family Sharing, or you store very large files in iCloud Drive.
